Depot Style Roof Fundraiser

"The shelter, or roof project has actually been a full site development plan,
with an estimated cost of $118,000 to complete at market prices. As of July 2008,
$156,669 has been contributed toward the project. The additional funds have
allowed for more improvements to the site and educational enhancements than
originally conceived. The shelter is now constructed with architectural features
and lighting reminiscent of the 1940s era, with a partially translucent roof
to allow better illumination for photography. A brick-patterned platform
surrounds the locomotive such as would be found at a depot, with additional
Observation Platform, landscaping, and seating included. The site improvements
have enhanced the preservation and educational value of an important piece of
North Iowa and railroad history. Individuals, clubs, businesses, and foundations
are all invited to continue to assist with contributions, or donations of materials
and services. The Friends of the 457 would be happy to make a video presentation
to any group interested within an hours drive of Mason City.
For additional information contact Cliff Hagman or Dennis Wilson through this website."
